In 1956, Walt Disney opened his first theme park in California and a small group of radio hams started a community radio station in South Shields. Both Disneyland and Radio South Tyneside are still going strong and both celebrate their 60th Anniversary this year.
To mark their anniversary, Radio South Tyneside have a number of events throughout the year and to kick start this, they are holding an open day at their studios in South Tyneside District Hospital on Saturday 19th March from 11am.
Visitors can see the station in action, meet volunteers and find out what being a member involves. Station Communications Manager, Simon Smith said “Despite being 60, there is still a huge interest in the service we provide both to the hospital and the wider community. By holding an open day, more people can see what being a volunteer at the station means.”
