Community radio station, Radio South Tyneside has received a donation that will literally keep them on the air! Maplin Electronics in Newcastle have recently donated two UPS systems which over-rides any interruption to the stations power supply meaning patients at South Tyneside District Hospital do not lose their favourite station.
Speaking about the donation, Station Manager Ron Cameron said, “For some time now, we have tweeted with the staff at Maplin’s and when they asked if there was anything they could donate to help us, the power supply solution was obvious. Being situated in a hospital, regular tests are carried out on the hospital power which can disrupt our broadcasts; having this generous donation means this will no longer be the case.”
Maplin are joining a growing number of supporters for the station, which hopes to launch an online service soon. They recently received sponsorship from Leeds Building Society, which has a branch in the hospital.
“As a self funding charity, we have always depended on the generosity of local businesses to help fund the station but it is nice to see some national names such as Maplin’s and The Leeds supporting the station too” says Ron.
