Radio South Tyneside Breakfast Show presenter Ron Cameron (@radio_ron) hit the headlines this week after starting a Twitter 'rolling repartee' with most of the UK's major supermarket and other retail brands.
After getting them involved in an online “party” at the end of last week, Ron started the week off with the best baking songs each retail brand could come up with on the hashtag #BakingSongs. Tesco, Morrisons, Greggs and TGI Fridays all contributed alongside Tweets from Royal Mail and HMV. The banter has since continued with #CleaningSongs and #OlympicSongs.
Ron told us "Radio South Tyneside have found that social media is a great way of engaging with the public and the big brands also know this. Getting some Twitter banter like this is great as it shows they have a fun side too." The Tweets caught the eye of some trade press with items being posted online about the exchanges.
Radio South Tyneside operate the Hospital Radio service for South Tyneside District Hospital and have plans to expand their service to the wider South Tyneside community during 2014. Social Media is an important part of their plan to stay in touch with listeners and the station recently exceeded 700 followers on Twitter (@radiosouthtyne).
