South Shields based Radio South Tyneside has been confirmed as one of the top 10 hospital radio stations in the UK.
The station, which has broadcast to South Tyneside District Hospital since 1956, has been confirmed as having one of the most listened to stations by Hospedia who run the bedside entertainment units in hospitals across the country.
Ron Cameron, Station Manager said “Being confirmed as having one of the most listened to stations in the country is a great accolade to our volunteer members who give their own time to produce great programming every week, even Lorraine Lambert, Chief Executive of the Trust tweeted ‘absolutely fantastic !!’ “
As well as continuing to broadcast to the hospital, Radio South Tyneside have plans to reach a wider audience online later this year. “We support a number of local charities such as Cancer Connections, St Clare’s Hospice and Westoe Village Fayre and find that local people ask how they can listen to us, so we are working on plans to provide a real ‘Caring Community Radio’ for the people of South Tyneside.”
Radio South Tyneside broadcasts FREE on Channel 1 of the Hospedia bedside system in South Tyneside District Hospital. You can find out more about them via www.radiosouthtyneside.co.uk.
